THe Timing of Time

The Timing of Time

Time on your hands………….where should time sit? Time flies, time stands still, time and time again…………how do we handle time or does time handle us????

It’s Thursday the 19th of November. The TIME is 6:12pm. I’m listening to an amazing tune called Cyberia by a group called Afro-Celt. If you’re around your computer, go listen to it right now!!! At around 1:26 the sound is incredible…….very mysterious and powerful.

OK, now that I’ve set the mood, back to time.

It’s so odd to me that something so constant can feel so shaky! Thoughts like: “I’m not sure I can make it in time”…….”Does anyone have the time”……….”I’ll never finish this in time”!!!

How can we shake time off………are we suppose to try??

I think not.

There is a certainty to life and one of those certainties is time. It guides us, connects us, and helps us understand our course. We have no control over time. To try and take control of it will only lead us down a path of anxiousness.

Don’t try.

Time teaches us patience. The constant with time can allow us to calm down in the moment.

Here’s what I’m trying to say: TAKE TIME……don’t abuse it. Take the constant of time……take the security of time knowing each and every minute will happen no matter what.

It’s a good thing.

Sorry to interrupt, but now I’m listening to Alicia Keys. I can’t seem to get enough of the song “Fallin’”. I know the media saturated us with this song, but that doesn’t take away the fact that this song rocks on every level……the lyrics, the backbeat, her voice, and the emotional journey!!

I’m back again from my own musical nirvana!!! (Remember my first entry!! Music heals the heart…….don’t forget that!!!)

I’m sitting here trying to understand what compelled me to write about time?? I think I wanted to talk about something that we have absolutely no control over!! As much as we try, we will never be able to control time………Time is as independent as it gets. Time needs no one. Time over time……..time out.

Does anyone out there like Annie Lennox? I think she is an amazing entertainer…….musician, singer, composer. She’s all heart and soul. I’m bringing her up because I just finished listening to her song “Sing”. This song was written to be a platform to focus on the issue of HIV, Aids, women and children. It’s a female anthem. I saw Annie Lennox in concert not too long ago, and I can honestly say I have never seen such a force on stage!! She sings from her “core” and her energy explodes!!!!!

So where does that leave us. I think it leaves us knowing that everyday we can get out of bed…….get dressed………take a deep breath and go out and conquer the world. The world is there for us to conquer if we choose to. All of us are qualified for this position!!

Time won’t leave us. Time won’t go away. Time won’t change.

It’s what we do within it.

Time is precious…….don’t waste time………time won’t waste you…

I don’t want to waste another moment…….what about you???

The Balancing Act

I call it The Balancing Act……your mind’s powerful reference that decides between listening to your heart or your head…………Between “What am I suppose to be doing” versus “What do I really want to do”???

The battle begins…..that power struggle within ourselves that keeps us up at night wondering what our next move will be?

How do we find that balance? A good visual is imagining your body is like a seesaw. If we are always in our heads……always doing what society deems “right” then one end of the see-saw stays all the way down while the other is always up. There is no chance to find balance.

Our souls need balance. As a dancer, I can tell you that dancers can’t function without it. I truly feel that the world can’t function without it.

Once again I find myself thinking…”Life lesson…….Dance lesson”…….there is so much similarity within the two.

Balancing work and play…….love and hate………right from wrong.

I believe the balance comes from deep within. The place inside all of us.

I call it “Our Instinctual Soul”. The place that is reactive; a place capable of making a decision in a heartbeat; a place where we can all live and breathe and make AMAZING decisions for ourselves!

I’ve mentioned in this blog how intelligent we have become as a society, yet the more knowledge we have; the less we seem to know what to do with it?? Somewhere along the way, we’ve stopped relying on ourselves. We’ve lost the ability to trust what our inner voices are saying.

In essence we’re instinctually “challenged”. I believe if we don’t start exercising our instinctual souls we will lose them forever. Maybe you’ll understand this better if I put it in terms of our bodies as a whole. We all understand the importance of exercising our bodies. When we work out, we are happier, healthier, and more balanced. If we don’t exercise, the chances of depression and illness greatly increase. Our instinctual souls need as much attention as our bodies do. If we view our instincts as a muscle, then we understand if that muscle is not used, atrophy will set in.

It’s time to exercise your soul.

Here’s what I’d like you to try……….The next time you’re shopping and you see something you really like (and you can afford it) - buy it!!! Don’t convince yourself you don’t need it. Don’t give yourself a few days to think about it. The odds are when you return to get it, it will be gone……..Trust me on this one!!

Work that muscle and take action!!!

How about one more……..You’re at work and someone you know has said something to upset you. REACT!! Don’t tell yourself that you’re being overly sensitive. Don’t rationalize the situation so that you end up defending the person that just hurt you! Go over to that person and tell them how you feel. Don’t worry about how they will react!! Are you listening to me…….DON’T WORRY ABOUT HOW THEY WILL REACT!!

Our “power” only exists for ourselves.

Please, please……let me know if I am helping!! I want to hear from you!!

NOW………get down and give me 20 “instinctual” push-ups!!!! :)

The Challenge: Taking Risks or Playing it Safe??

Do you want to take the challenge??? OK, I know it’s not your typical topic sentence, but it’s the question I want to propose to you. DO YOU WANT TO PLAY IT SAFE, OR TAKE RISKS??

I ask you……how do you want to play it???

The reason this topic has come up is I realized that if I’m here to help you find the path to nirvana, then I need to address some of the hurdles that might come up along the way.

Years ago, I was watching some documentary (don’t ask me which one???) and the interviewer was asking people in their 80’s and 90’s if they regretted anything about their past. Hands down, most everyone said…….”I wish I took more risks”.

With that, my entire inner being took over and thought……”I never want to have that regret”!! As uncomfortable as I might get going through my world and taking the risks I need to take, I would rather have those uncomfortable feelings than play it safe.

THEN, the question comes up……..how do I get out of my rut of playing it safe?? What is my first move? What if I’m too scared to take another path? What happens if I fail?? Who will be there to catch me if I fall??

The list goes on and on………

With all our insecure thoughts, it’s important to understand that we have as much potential to feed ourselves “positive” thoughts as it is to drown ourselves in “negative” ones. Those positive thoughts that make us smile……get us outdoors to breathe in fresh air……..to hold our head high and go out into the world and get what we want from it. It is possible!!!

So why is it we allow ourselves to carry such insecure thoughts?? What does it accomplish?? Where does it take us?? Most likely you are answering “I have no idea” to all of these questions. If that is your truth, then AGAIN, I ask you……

How do you want to play it????

If I might make a suggestion………I say “Take the Risks!!!!” What have you to lose?

Here’s the thing about failing…….it doesn’t exist!! I’m serious!! Failing is something our society has created. Can anyone really measure success or failure??

I think not!!

As always, measure your life according to your own set of rules……no one elses!! Throw the rule book away!!! In fact, RIGHT NOW I want you to go write down on a piece of paper all those “negative” thoughts that keep you from moving forward. GO!!!! Make it as long or as short as you like!

Now, take that piece of paper and get rid of it!!!! Burn it, throw it far away, rip it up……..whatever you want, but know that once it’s gone……IT’S GONE!!!!

Now, take a deep breath and begin....

How do you want to embrace today? What do you want for yourself tomorrow? Where do you want to be right now!!

Have it your way……..your life is not for anyone else to decide. It’s precisely that……..YOUR LIFE!!

GO LIVE IT!!!
